The back most part of the palate is soft - without bone. The very backmost part that has a bone component is of the palatine bone. This is an extension behind the palatal part of the maxilla. Find somebody who can describe the shape of this bone accurately and you have somebody who doesn't get out much. Think of it as spackle between the gaps of larger bones whose contours are easier to tie to function.
